Practice Areas

At Yocum, Krowl & Associates, LLP, we focus exclusively on helping individuals and families secure the Social Security Disability benefits they need. Our attorneys guide clients through every stage of the application and appeals process, ensuring claims are complete, timely, and supported by the strongest evidence.

What It Is: Social Security Disability benefits provide financial support to individuals who cannot work due to a serious medical condition. Benefits are available through two main programs: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI – Title II) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI – Title XVI). Additional benefits may also be available for surviving spouses and disabled adult children.

How We Help: Our attorneys and advocates guide clients through the application, documentation, and appeals process. From gathering medical evidence to representing you at hearings, we ensure your claim is as strong as possible.

Title II Benefits

What It Is: SSDI provides monthly benefits to people who cannot work due to a qualifying disability and who have earned enough work credits by paying into Social Security.

Who Qualifies:

  • Workers with sufficient Social Security credits
  • Individuals unable to engage in Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) due to a severe disability
  • Disabled individuals expected to be unable to work for at least 12 months or whose condition is terminal

How We Help: We prepare complete applications, gather detailed medical records, and advocate for clients at every level—from initial filings through hearings and appeals.

Title XVI Benefits

What It Is: SSI is a need-based program that provides monthly payments to disabled individuals (including children), as well as those who are blind or age 65 and older, who have limited income and resources.

Who Qualifies:

  • Individuals with limited financial means
  • Disabled adults and children who meet SSA’s medical criteria
  • Seniors age 65+ with limited income/resources

How We Help: We ensure applications are accurate, document medical and financial eligibility, and address common reasons for denial.

Disabled Adult Child Benefits

What It Is: Provides monthly support to adults with disabilities that began before age 22, based on a parent’s Social Security record (deceased, retired, or disabled).

Who Qualifies:

  • Adults with a documented disability that started before age 22
  • Individuals who remain unmarried
  • Children of parents who are deceased, retired, or receiving disability benefits

How We Help: We help families gather medical documentation and navigate ongoing eligibility.

Who Qualifies:

  • Widows/widowers who meet Social Security’s definition of disability
  • Applicants who have not remarried before age 60 (with limited exceptions)

How We Help: We guide clients through eligibility requirements, collect medical evidence, and manage applications.

Why Representation Matters

Social Security Disability claims are complex, and many first-time applications are denied due to:

  • Incomplete paperwork
  • Insufficient medical evidence
  • Missed deadlines

Our team ensures your claim is:

  • Thoroughly documented with medical and work records
  • Submitted on time and in compliance with SSA rules
  • Advocated for through reconsiderations and hearings
